2 ANIMALI

Gull of Liguria
Fierce,
from the top of the rock
you look far, over the endless sea.
White is your head,
foam of a wave that breaks,
yellow the beak,
broom on the steep cliff,
gray the wings,
like the Ligurian slate roofs.

Fierce,
from the top of the rock,
engrossed you inhale
unknown breezes from foreign lands,
and nourish the dreams of your noble destiny
made of wild waves, of winds and of storms.

Then you take off to follow croaky flights

on the trail of well-known flatulences
towards refuses and distant dumps
where you consume your bleak season
among sacks, sewages and putrescences.

Gabbiano di Liguria

Fiero,
dall’alto della roccia
guardi lontano, nell’infinito mare.
Superbo
ostenti cn orgoglio
i tuoi liguri colori.
Bianco il capo;
spuma d’onda che si frange,
giallo il becco;
ginestra sulla ripida falesia
grigie le ali;
tetti liguri lucidi d’ardesia.
Fiero, altero
  inspiri sconosciute brezze
di terre straniere
e nutri i sogni del tuo nobile destino
di onde tempestose e di terribili bufere.
Poi, senza grazia alcuna,
 t’involi per seguire
i  gracchiantituoi fratelli
sulle tracce di note flatulenze
verso pattumi, e discariche lontane
dove consumi la tua squallida stagione
fra sacchetti, liquami e putrescenze.

Earth Worms

November.

Polluted cities.

Dark afternoon

Of late november.

The stifling gray

Of a leaden sky

That sinks into the sea.

An unrelenting rain

Over stagnant meadows

Over wet walls,

Over iridescent puddles

Over rotten leaves

Of already bare pathways.

Long earthworms crawl

Between the tar of the mud

Muddy thoughts crawl

Soaked with gray regret.

Lombrichi

Novembre.

Città inquinate

Pomeriggio scuro

di tardo novembre.

Il grigio opprimente

d'un cielo di piombo

che muore  nel mare.

Una pioggia insistente

sui prati stagnanti

sui muri bagnati,

sulle pozze iridate

sulle foglie marcite

d'un  viale già spoglio.

Strisciano lunghi lombrichi
come limacciosi pensieri
fra i catrami del fango.
I fili di pioggia
mi tracciano intorno
una liquida grata
di prigionia.
Allora mi sposto sotto al platano accanto
affinché la mia malinconia
non si inzuppi di tutto questo pianto.

  Freedom

With elegant strides,

My young tabby cat enters.

Little tiger that brings

A little savannah into my living room.

Jade eyes, brilliant,

Made up like an Egyptian queen,

Conceals a deep secret:

The true nature of freedom.

Little tiger that brings

A little savannah into my living room,

Tell me, what is the arcane recipe

Of Freedom?

Freedom, the real kind,

Absolute and innate….

Is comfortably sprawled out

Between the cushions and sofa,

You look at me with cold emeralds,

You yawn,

And you refuse

To give me advice…

Libertà

*

Entra, con passi eleganti,

la mia giovane gatta soriana.

Piccola tigre che mi porta in salotto

un po’ di savana.

Gli occhi di giada, brillanti,

truccati da regina egiziana,

celano, ben nascosti nel fondo,

gli arcani misteri della felinità.

Piccola tigre che mi porti in salotto

un po’ di savana,

almeno dimmi,

qual è la segreta ricetta

della tua libertà?

Comodamente sdraiata

fra cuscini e sofà,

mi guardi con freddi smeraldi,

sbadigli,

e ti rifiuti

di darmi consigli…

Concert at the Cistercian Abbey of Tiglieto

Golden sunset, people in the meadow

The music flooding the valley;

It flows through the waters of the river bed

It caresses the antique trees

It grazes the red bricks

And the rocks, still laden
of sacred and ancient choirs

Of the antique Abbey of Tigliet.

Sweet notes, violin melodies.

And here, on the brim of the roof

On top of the tile,

A nightingale

Rests;

Little, uncertain profile

Against the last rays of the sun suns last rays

That grazes the ancient Abbey

A lovely warble

Rehearsed chords

Offset timing for the incorrect notes

Then, unexpected magic,

In unison, a concert

Of the nightingale and violins

Together they revive the ancient times and the present:

They listen

The first Benedictine monks

They listen

The marquis of the nineteenth century

They listen

People of today in the meadow

Diffused in the wind’s breath

Mysterious, an arcane presence,

Listens,

To the divine concert

Through the nightingale and violin.

Concerto all'Abbadia Cistercense di Tiglieto

Tramonto dorato, la gente sul prato.

La musica inonda la valle;

scorre fra le acque del greto,

accarezza gli alberi antichi,

sfiora i rossi mattoni

e le pietre, ancor pregne,

di sacri e antichissimi cori

dell'antica  Badia di Tiglieto.

Dolcissime note, melodia di violini.

Ed ecco, sul colmo del tetto,

in cima ad un coppo,

un usignolo, si posa;

piccolissimo, incerto profilo

contro gli ultimi raggi di sole

che sfiorano l’antica Badia.

Un vago gorgheggio,

accordi di prova,

tempi sfasati per errato solfeggio.

Poi, inattesa magia,

all’unisono, inizia un concerto

d'usignolo e violini.

Insieme rivive l’antico e il presente :

ascoltano

i primi monaci benedettini

ascoltano

i marchesi dell’ottocento

ascolta

la gente di oggi sul prato.

Diffusa nel fiato del vento,

misteriosa, una arcana presenza,

ascolta,

il concerto divino

per usignolo e violino.

Elderly in the city

(PET THERAPY)

They go, curved,
under the weight of their consumed lives,
on the long avenue of evening.

They go,
with small footsteps,
slowly hesitating,
with their modest shopping bags.

They go,
with bowed head,
trying to see
past the opaque curtain of the years
the cars, the potholes and the stones.

They go, silently,
along the long avenue that used to hear
their young footsteps
hastening towards useless toils.

They go, uncertain,
towards their houses,
once so near and now so distant.

They go, sad,
orphans of caresses and smiles,
to complete their duty of living.

ù

They go, a little overwhelmed,
mumbling with distant memories,
perhaps thinking
of the mewing or the merry tail waggle
of whom waits for a little love
from their old trembling hands.

Anziani in città

(PET  THERAPY)

Vanno, curvi,
sotto il peso delle loro vite consumate,
sul lungo viale della sera.

Vanno,
a piccoli passi,
oscillando lentamente,
con i modesti sacchetti della spesa.

Vanno,
col capo chino,
per cercare di vedere
oltre l’opaca cortina degli anni
le auto, le buche e i sassi.

Vanno, in silenzio,
lungo il viale che udì
i loro giovani passi
affrettarsi verso inutili affanni.

Vanno, incerti,
verso le loro case,
una volta così vicine ed ora così lontane.

Vanno, mesti,
orfani di carezze e di sorrisi
a ultimare il loro dovere di vivere.

Vanno, un po’ confusi,
parlottando con ricordi distanti,
forse pensando
al miagolio o allo scodinzolare lieto
di chi attende un po’di amore
dalle loro vecchie mani tremanti.

If there will be a heaven

If there will be a heaven

animals will have a place in it,

because they have been martyrs,

because they have been slaves.

If there will be a heaven

animals will have a place in it,

and in the boundless meadows of the sky

they will drink clear waters,

they will rest under fresh shades

and enjoy the lukewarm sun

among the tender flowers of a lawn.

If there will be a heaven

animals will have a place in it,

and those that loved us,

if they want so,

will have us standing by.

If there will be a heaven

they will be there,

because they have already

suffered    hell.

If there will be a heaven

they will be there,

and they will be the first,

because they have been the last

on this earth.

The very last…

If there will be a heaven….

Se ci sarà un paradiso…

Se ci sarà un paradiso

gli animali ci saranno,

perché sono stati martiri,

perché sono stati schiavi.

Se ci sarà un paradiso

gli animali ci saranno,

e nelle sterminate praterie del cielo

potranno bere limpide acque,

potranno riposare sotto fresche ombre

e  godere del tiepido sole

fra i teneri fiori d’un prato.

Se ci sarà un paradiso

gli animali ci saranno,

e quelli che ci hanno amato,

se lo vorranno,

ci avranno accanto.

Se ci sarà un paradiso

loro ci saranno

perché l’inferno lo hanno già vissuto.

        Se ci sarà un paradiso

loro ci saranno,

e saranno i primi,

perché sono stati gli ultimi

su questa  terra.

I veri ultimi.

Se ci sarà un paradiso..

Swallows in the evening

They did it, they returned!

Head dives

Darting ascents

Sudden turns

Plunges at sunset

In the bond of threads

Against a worn sky

And dying

with embers already extinguished.

Cry of children’s games

Gush of laughter

Then, in the cones of nests,

Under the stone arch,

The little wings

Rest calmly.

A lamp turns on

And drops a curtain of silent shadows

Upon the slumbers of the world.

Rondini a sera

Ce l’hanno fatta, son tornate!

Picchiate giocose,

ascese scattanti,

virate improvvise.

Tuffi al tramonto

nell’intreccio dei fili.

contro un cielo morente

per braci ormai spente.

.

Grida di giochi di bimbi.

Zampilli di risa.

Poi, nei coni dei nidi,

sotto l’arco di pietra,

le piccole ali

riposano quiete.

Un lampione s'accende

mentre cala il sipario

sui sonni del mondo.

In silenzio,

la sera

scende.

Hope

SPIDER

The spider web shines

In the early morning,

Delicate,

Delicate.

The damp ray of light

Binds itself strongly,

Firmly,

To the young leaves

Of the old chestnut tree.

The frail rays fall

Swinging from a branch

And seeks, falling in the emptiness,

Safe and trustworthy support

To finish the ancient embroiders

It shines,

Pure,

The spider web,

delicate,

delicate,

In the transparent sky

of an April morning.

Speranza

Il RAGNO

Brilla il filo del ragno

nel primo mattino,

sottile,

sottile.

L’umido filo di luce

si lega con forza,

tenace,

alle giovani foglie

del vecchio castagno.

Scende l’ esile raggio

oscillando da un ramo

e cerca, cadendo nel vuoto,

un sicuro affidabile appoggio

per finire l’antico ricamo.

Brilla,

purissimo,

il filo del ragno

sottile,

sottile

nel limpido cielo d’un mattino d’Aprile.

The Fox

Warm autumn fog

That rises in the evening

Between the sparse bushes

And the naked trees

Of the hill.

It appears from nothing

Unexpected, close,

 A splendid fox,

Immobile, alert, lofty

Autumn colored

And white with snow

A reciprocal gaze:

…prolonged…

A moment of curious surprise,

Silence, astonishment.

And then, it disappears, without sound.

From the transient veil of nothingness,

Unexpectedly,

We come out of life’s monitor

And we hurry ourselves to pass through

Its intricate mess

And we plunge ourselves

Into the madness of existence

For the short moments assigned to us.

Sometimes a gaze.

Sometimes a silence,

Or an unexpected voice,

Offers us, a surprise,

The consciousness of being,

The perception of existing.

A conscious instant

Before disappearing, again,

Into the infinite haze

From which we have emerged.

La Volpe

Tiepida nebbia autunnale

che sale, di sera,

fra i radi cespugli

e gli alberi spogli

della collina.

Dal nulla compare

imprevista, vicina,

una splendida volpe,

immobile,vigile, altera,

colorata d’autunno

e di candida neve.

Un reciproco sguardo:

….lunghissimo…

un momento di curiosa sorpresa,

silenzio, stupore.

Poi, sparisce, senza rumore.

Dal labile velo del nulla,

inaspettatamente,

sbuchiamo sul monitor della vita

e ci affrettiamo a percorrere

i suoi grovigli intricati,

e ci tuffiamo

nella frenesia dell’esistere

per i brevi momenti assegnati.

Talora uno sguardo,

talora un silenzio,

o una voce inattesa,

ci offre, a sorpresa,

la coscienza di essere,

la percezione di esistere.

Un consapevole istante

prima di sparire, di nuovo,

nella nebbia d'infinito

da cui siamo sbucati.
