Oltre
il vetro
|
Contro la trasparente vetrata
una piccola farfallina argentata.
più in basso e più in alto.
un volo, un piccolo salto.
Picchia di nuovo, insistente,
di nuovo contro il limpido vetro,
di nuovo avanti, di nuovo indietro.
contro l'ignoto diaframma
Sale e riscende, si riposa sfinita.
Poi ricomincia la grande fatica,
l’attende il mondo di fuori.
al di là della lastra proibita

Beyond the glass
Against the transparent glass window
hits, repeatedly,
a small silver butterfly.
And it keeps on hitting:
the
light awaits it.
Up and down it goes,
up and down again,
a
little lower, a little higher.
It keeps on hitting:
a flight, a little jump.
Persistent, it bangs one more time,
again against the clear window,
again ahead, again backwards.
It keeps on hitting:
against the clean pane,
against the unknown diaphragm
that blocks life.
Up and down one more time,
then exhausted it rests.
The big effort starts once more,
and it hits again,
and again;
the light awaits it,
the flowers await it,
the world outside awaits it.
Trying,
striving to get
beyond the forbidden sheet,
trying,
carrying on,
till death.

Winter fishing in Albisola
Winter’s dawn,
dark with cold;
icy blades of lunar light
ripple silvers,
in rapid shudders,
on distant waves.
White chain of hands,
bright with small scales,
which retrieve death
from the black depths of the sea.
In the long net that rises,
among the tightly twisted mesh,
dart the dying fish
mad with last life.
Desperate mosaic
of shards of mirror and glimmering scales.
Waves keep time
the timepiece of the world,
in identical instants.
To…and fro…
…fro…and to.
My hearts beats to the rhythm of the waves
consuming the previously set clock pulleys
of the old pendulum of my life.
To…and fro…
…from…and to.
Small grains of sand,
sink, slowly, to the seafloor,
punctual, regular, incessant.
To…and fro…
…fro…and to
Lying, immobile, are fish of silver
on the long beach wet with moonlight.
Fizzing, among the small stones, is the foam…

Pesca invernale ad Albisola
Alba invernale,
buia di freddo;
gelide lame di luce lunare
increspano argenti,
con rapidi brividi,
sui flutti lontani.
Bianca collana di mani,
brillanti di piccole squame,
che tirano fuori la morte
dagli abissi neri del mare.
Nella lunga rete che sale,
fra le strette maglie contorte,
guizzano i pesci morenti
impazziti di ultima vita.
Disperato mosaico
di cocci di specchi
e di squame lucenti.
Ritmano le onde
l’orologio del mondo,
con identici istanti.
Piccoli grani di sabbia,
scendono, piano, sul fondo,
puntuali, regolari, incessanti.
Batte il mio cuore col ritmo dell'onda
e si consuma la carica già stabilita
del vecchio pendolo della mia vita.
Giacciono, immobili, i pesci d'argento
sulla lunga spiaggia bagnata di luna.
Frizza, fra i piccoli sassi, la schiuma...

of a
trailer during a short stop
-
Mountains, valleys, green
lawns,
-
still
engraved in the dark depth
-
of those big dilated black pupils.
-
Tearful eyes, that will see
-
of the
white slaughter houses.
Runs,
leaps, cheerful trots,
on
the soft and wet blanket
near
the murmur of a fall;
grass
and mud are now dried
stuck
on the hooves, wounded
sucked, greedily, in the cowshed
with
vigorous cheerful head blows,
now
you look for it again,
licking
the grills, in vain,
with a dried tongue in the burning heat,
dazed with thirst, hunger and fear
while pain drums in your brain.
jostled by other unlucky ones,
a cold
and indifferent gun
will
be placed on the black spot
in
the middle of your forehead,
in
that instant before sleeping,
of your Mother's rough tongue.

Grandi, dolci, tristi occhi
d'un ignaro giovane vitello
che mi guardano, spaventati,
dietro lugubri inferriate
d'un rimorchio, in sosta
ad un casello.
Monti, valli, verdi prati,
ancor impressi nel fondo scuro
delle grandi pupille dilatate.
Lucidi occhi che vedranno,
nel prossimo futuro,
le bianche pareti di
marmo del macello.
Corse, salti, lieti trotti,
sull' umida e morbida trapunta
di verdi erbe profumate
vicino ad un ruscello;
erba e fango,
adesso rinsecchiti,
sugli zoccoli feriti
dalle taglienti
griglie di metallo.
Dolce, caldo, bianco latte
che, con vitali, gioiose testate,
succhiavi, goloso, nella stalla
e che ora cerchi,
leccando le inferriate,
colla lingua secca dall'arsura,
inebetito di sete, di fame e di paura
mentre il dolore ti batte nel cervello.
E poi, quando
finalmente,
sospinto da altri sventurati,
stordito, vacillante,
arriverai là dove,
fredda, sicura,
la canna di pistola
si poserà sul pelo nero della fiamma
che hai, al centro della fronte,
per l’ultima volta,
allora in quell’istante,
prima di dormire,
sentirai ancora,
la calda carezza d'amore
della ruvida lingua della mamma.

Stray Dog
....January...snow.......
Happy petals of snow
Fall, slowly,
They play delicately
They joust in the chilly gray
Under the white filigree
Of bare frosty pendants
Unexpectedly,
it unleashes
Primeval joy
Of a stray dog
That immerses
And immerses again
In the snow white garden
Of fluffy cotton wool
Then, slowly,
From the deep shelter
Of my assuaged soul
The youthful stamina of life
Unexpectedly emerges.

Cane randagio
*
Petali di neve
scendono, adagio;
giocano girando
nel gelo
d’un grigio giorno di Gennaio.
Sotto alla bianca filigrana
dei sottilissimi rami,
improvvisa, si scatena
la gioia primordiale
d’un cane randagio
che s'immerge
e riemerge
e di nuovo gioioso
s’immerge
nella distesa di soffice bambagia.
Allora,
adagio,
dal suo uggioso rifugio
si risveglia,
improvviso,
il giovane germoglio
della mia vita randagia.

(Flash of a distant memory)
exhausted under the scorching sun,
turning and turning around the wheel
in the thirsty vegetable garden
near the sea.
You used to push the heavy axis of the wheel
that raised dripping buckets:
rumbling water rolled into the furrow.
I was looking at you
with sadness and pain:
the heavy yoke,
the same slow movements,
the circle of footsteps,
the bowed head,
the fixed gaze upon
the narrow horizon
of hooves and footprints
from dawn to a torrid dusk.
Every day, on the way
to the underpass
of the old railway,
I passed next to you
and, for a moment,
took on a bit of your sadness
to keep you company.
Under the bent yoke
you didn't see me,
but you certainly heard me
attentive
rotating your velvet ears.
perhaps you were listening
to the rhythm of the waves,
or to the shouts of the children,
there, at the edge of the beach:
far-away distinctive sounds,
sole varying
to your vain going round.
Exhausted you drew the same rings
beating with regular cadences
a time measured by flowing little channels:
fresh and short brooks
sucked in soon
by the thirst of the clay.
With hard and monotonous effort
you were pushing
the heavy minutes’ arm
on the arid quadrant
of the slow life clock.
Dear patient donkey
of my youth,
who were turning and turning
in vain without halt,
perhaps a little of your sadness
still cries
in the most secret part of my heart.

Grigio asinello, paziente
Grigio asinello paziente
stremato, sotto il sole cocente,
che, giravi… giravi… intorno al pozzo
nell’assetato orto, vicino al mare,
spingendo l’asse della ruota
che alzava secchielli gocciolanti:
scrosci
d’acqua che cadevano nel fosso.
Magro asinello schiavo,
con grande pena ti guardavo:
il pesante giogo addosso,
mosse lente, sempre uguali,
cerchi di passi uno sull’altro,
dall’alba al torrido tramonto.
Testa bassa e sguardo fisso
allo stretto orizzonte
di zoccoli e di impronte.
Ogni giorno, sull’assolata via,
Stanco asinello triste e muto,
forse ascoltavi il ritmo delle onde,
o le grida dei bimbi, là in fondo,
sulla spiaggia lontana,
unica variante
al tuo vano girotondo.
Esausto
tracciavi anelli, sempre uguali,
battendo, con cadenze regolari,
un tempo che fluiva in piccoli canali:
freschi e fugaci ruscelli
subito succhiati dalla sete dell’argilla.
Con dura e monotona fatica
spingevi, sull’arido quadrante,
la pesante asta dei minuti
del lento orologio della vita.
Caro asinello paziente,
della mia prima giovinezza,
che giravi, giravi invano, intorno al pozzo,
forse, un po’ di quella Tua tristezza,
piange
ancora
mentre
spingo,
ogni giorno
con fatica,
l'asta del
quadrante
che traccia
la mia vita.

Mutely we
watch you
encaged
in the panting prison
of your
existence,
fighting
your useless battle.
Confidently, you beseech,
with your
beloved glance,
the help
we can't give you.
Only
caresses
on your
long suffering,
hopelessly closed,
in the
forced tiring bellows
that hold
your life.
Soon
gentle
caresses of ground
will end
your pain
and cover
your peace.

Addio alla gatta Mimì
Muti ti guardiamo,
chiusa nella gabbia ansante
del tuo esistere,
combattere l’inutile battaglia.
Fiduciosa,
implori, collo sguardo, un aiuto
che non ti sappiamo dare.
Solo carezze
sulla tua lunga sofferenza
irrimediabilmente chiusa
nel faticoso mantice obbligato
che mantiene la tua vita.
Fra poco,
carezze leggere di terra
chiuderanno il tuo dolore
e copriranno la tua pace.

Nervously stamp the birds:
the start is in the wings
the start is in the little paws
Little jumps, signs of flight,
short resounding messages
The moment has come:
it’s necessary to leave
and they all know it
The seas, the deserts,he storms and the shots
But they must leave,
maybe without arriving
And in the Autumn sky go
the big throbbing of winged wedges
towards the arid spaces
of the African lands.
I feel that I must leave, as well;
nervously beat my wings,
|
Scalpitano nervosi gli uccelli:
la partenza è nelle piccole zampe.
Piccoli salti, cenni di voli
lacerando radici familiari
partono le tristi schiere dei migranti
e vanno nel grigio d'autunno
cunei neri palpitanti di ali
Perché bisogna partire
partire, andare, andare
Forse senza arrivare.
Sbattono nervose anche le mie ali;

March
(Cat in the window)
Rays
of sunlight
Rhythms flash light
Misty
dances
of
mimosa branches
Yellow triumph
Expires
A
light breath
A
pure breeze
Of
distant snow
Against the morning light
An
unknown universe
Of
fine dusts
Navigates, uncertain,
Towards unknown destinies.
My
cat in the window
Shines of gold,
It
half closes its eyes
And
inhales,
Down
to the bottom,
Altogether,
The
beauty of the world.

Marzo
(Gatto
alla finestra)
Raggi
di sole
ritmano guizzi di luce
fra
danze vaporose
di
rami di mimose.
Spira, nel trionfo di giallo,
un
soffio lieve
di
purissima brezza
di
lontana neve.
Dondolarsi fra qugli esili rami
come il pulsare del passar delle ore,
confordersi nei bagliori lontani
che brillano al confine del mare.
Contro la luce del mattino,
un
ignoto universo
di
polveri fini
naviga, incerto,
verso
ignoti destini.
Il
mio gatto alla finestra
riluce d’argento,
socchiude gli occhi
e
inspira,
fino
al fondo,
tutta
insieme,
la
bellezza del mondo.

Ill-fated Moon Bear
the slow time of your pain.
that never fills itself.
trickles your vital lymph
and the narrow metal cage
hold together ulcered flesh
And when, in the dark night,
it reaches you from afar,
a refuge of mountainous forests and
a faint babbling of brooks,
in that dream, for an instant,
those impenetrable metal bars
become trunks of shady forests
and the cries of martyr brothers
turn into whistles of valley winds
and the trembling spasms
of the torturous arts
turn into joyous leaps
on the grassy fields.
you extend your large brown paw
out of that menacing cage of torture
and, though without any hope,
in vain you call for amiable rescue,
Oh my dear, oh ill-fated, Moon Bear!
|
Sventurato Orso della Luna
Gocciola
il lento tempo del tuo dolore.
Gocciola
in una clessidra infida
che mai si colma.
Per guadagni infami,
gocciola la tua vitale linfa
nel lurido catetere,
mentre l'uncinata corazza
e l'angusta gabbia di metallo
immorsano le ulcerate carni
e le fratturate ossa.
E quando, nella notte oscura,
ti giunge da lontano
un refolo di montani boschi e
un flebile sussurro di ruscelli,
nel sogno, per un istante,
quelle fitte sbarre di metallo
si fan tronchi di foreste ombrose
e i lamenti dei martiri fratelli
mutano nei sibili di vento delle valli
e i convulsi fremiti degli arti torturati
si fan gioiosi salti sugli erbosi prati.
Allora,
Tu allunghi la tua grande zampa bruna
fuori dalla funesta gabbia di tortura
e, pur senza speranza alcuna,
invano invochi un aiuto amico,
oh mio caro, oh sventurato,
Orso della Luna!

From the millions of little, narrow,
from the innocent fleshes, gashed
by millions of gun shots,
through the Earth’s roads,
from the thousands of iron chains,
|
Grido
di dolore
Dai milioni di piccole gabbie
anguste, addossate,
dalle carni innocenti squarciate,
per gioco,
da milioni di tiri di schioppo,
dai roventi rimorchi,
in viaggio,
per le strade della Terra,
dalle mille catene di ferro,
s’alza
unico, immenso,
spietato e
tremendo
il grido di dolore,
degli animali del mondo.

Robin
A low, heavy
large cloud,
leaden blanket
of grey sadness,
silently slides
to cover the winter sky.
Between the snowy spots of the avenue
hops,
lonely,
a lost robin.
Wary,
frightened,
it kicks and brings
everywhere
its red,
cheerful,
and small, stain of colour.
Sudden blows of guns.
Bangs in sequence,
bursts;
close and terrible booms.
Swift flight of birds:
frightened,
maddened,
in sudden
nosedives,
in chaotic turns,
in rapid fall…
On the snow,
a red spot.
A small splatter of vanished life.

Pettirosso
- Bassa, greve
- una nuvola estesa,
- plumbea coperta
- di tristezza grigia,
- scivola muta
- a coprire il cielo
invernale.
-
- Fra le chiazze di neve
del viale
- saltella
- solitario,
- un pettirosso sperduto.
- Guardingo,
- impaurito,
- sgambetta e porta,
- qua e là,
- la sua rossa,
- allegra,
-
e piccola,
macchia
rossa
di
colore.
-
- Improvvisi colpi di
schioppi.
- Botti in sequenza,
- scoppi;
- rimbombi vicini e
tremendi.
- Veloci voli d’uccelli:
- impauriti
- impazziti
- in picchiate
- improvvise
- in caotiche svolte,
- in rapida caduta…
-
- Sulla neve,
- una macchia di sangue.
Un piccolo spruzzo di vita perduta.
